Frontside Bigspin

Difficulty Level: IntermediateTail

The Front-Facing Spin

A Frontside Bigspin consists of a frontside 360 pop shove-it while the rider turns their body 180 degrees frontside. It is often considered more difficult than the backside version due to the way the board moves in front of the rider.

🎯 Spin it Frontside

The Frontside Bigspin is a technical and stylish trick. Mastering it shows a deep understanding of board control and rotation, adding a valuable tool to your flatground arsenal.

👟 Foot Positioning

1. Front Foot Position

Place your front foot near the front bolts with it HANGING OFF A LITTLE BIT - like a heelflip position (but you're not doing a heelflip). This foot doesn't do much work - it just comes up and waits for the catch. Don't worry about flipping or where this foot goes.

2. Back Foot Position

Place your back foot in the CORNER POCKET of the tail - this is the frontside 360 shove-it position. This is the key: IT'S ALL BACK FOOT. All the work comes from your back foot doing the scoop.

1

Master Prerequisites First

Make sure you have your FRONTSIDE SHOVE-ITS DOWN solid. Without frontside shove-its, you can't combine the 180 with the whole bigspin. This trick is a 180 and a frontside 360 pop shove-it TOGETHER, not separate.

2

Pop and Scoop - ALL BACK FOOT

This is the key: IT'S ALL BACK FOOT. Your back foot does all the work - pop and scoop the tail forward and around for the 360 shove-it. Wind up your shoulders slightly for the body 180. Front foot just comes up and waits for the catch. Don't worry about what the front foot is doing - really, it doesn't matter.

3

Rotate Body 180 Frontside

As the board spins in front of you (frontside 360 shove-it), turn your body 180 degrees frontside. The sequence is: frontside shove-it FIRST, then add the 180. Keep your eyes on the board as it rotates in front of you.

4

Catch and Land (Pivot if Needed)

Catch the board with your front foot and bring your back foot down. You can PIVOT to complete the rotation if needed. Sometimes it might accidentally become a big spin heel - that's normal when learning. Land and ride away.

💡

Golden Tip!

IT'S ALL BACK FOOT - your back foot does all the work. Front foot just comes up and waits for the catch. Make sure you have solid frontside 360 shove-its before attempting this. The sequence is: frontside shove-it first, then add the 180.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

⚠️

Trying to use front foot too much: Remember, IT'S ALL BACK FOOT. Front foot just waits.

⚠️

Not having solid frontside shove-its: You need these down first before attempting bigspins.

⚠️

Accidentally doing a big spin heel: This happens a lot when learning - it's normal.

⚠️

Board doesn't rotate the full 360: Your back foot scoop needs to be more powerful and precise.

⚠️

Board gets away from you: Stay more centered and jump straight up.

⚠️

Separating the 180 and shove-it: They need to happen together, not separate.
