The Classic Heel-Flick Trick

The Heelflip is a fundamental flip trick where the board rotates towards you, kicked by your front heel. It is the opposite of a kickflip and a staple in skateboarding, known for its stylish look.

This guide will break down the Heelflip, from foot placement to the final landing, helping you add this essential trick to your skills.

👟 Foot Positioning

1. Front Foot Position

2. Back Foot Position

1

Pop

Pop the tail straight down to get the board into the air. A solid pop is crucial for giving you enough time to flip the board.

2

Flick

As the board rises, slide your front foot towards the nose and flick out with your heel. Imagine kicking a ball with the outside of your foot.

3

Catch

Watch for the board to complete its rotation. Use your back foot to stop the spin and catch the board, then bring your front foot on.

4

Land

Land with your feet over the bolts and bend your knees to absorb the impact. Ride away clean.

💡

Golden Tip!

Focus on jumping straight up and not leaning back. Let the flick of your heel do the work.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

⚠️

Board flies in front of you: You are likely leaning back too much. Keep your shoulders aligned with the board.

⚠️

Under-rotation: The board doesn’t complete the flip. Focus on flicking harder and more deliberately with your heel.

⚠️

Over-rotation or landing primo: You are flicking too hard. Find a balance between a gentle push and a powerful kick.
