Nollie Hardflip

Difficulty Level: AdvancedNose

The Vertical Nollie Flip

The Nollie Hardflip is a visually distinct trick where the board flips vertically between your legs. It combines a nollie pop with a kickflip, but with a unique flick that causes the board to rotate on a vertical axis, initiated from the nollie stance.

🎯 Challenge Your Coordination

Mastering the Nollie Hardflip demonstrates a high level of board control and technical precision. It’s a rewarding trick that adds a significant amount of style to your repertoire, known for its awkward but satisfying execution.

👟 Nollie Hardflip Foot Setup

1. Front Foot Position (Pop)

Place your front foot on the edge of the nose with your toes hanging off. Applying pressure on your toes will tilt the board, bringing the griptape closer to your flicking foot and making the flip much easier.

2. Back Foot Position (Flick)

Your back foot should be in a nollie-flip-like position but placed more towards the center of the board. This position is key for the awkward flick and for getting your foot out of the way quickly.

📈 Detailed Nollie Hardflip Execution

1

Pop Straight Down

Snap the nose straight down to pop. Unlike a shove-it, there is no scooping motion. The pressure from your toes hanging off the nose will naturally tilt the board, preparing it for the flip.

2

Flick and Get Out

Almost simultaneously with the pop, perform the kickflip motion with your back foot. The most important part is to get this foot out of the way immediately after the flick to allow the board to flip freely between your legs.

3

Catch and Level Out

The trick happens quickly and vertically. Keep your body centered and suck your knees up. As the board completes its flip, use both feet to catch it and level it out under you.

4

Land and Roll Away

Land with your feet over the bolts and bend your knees to absorb the impact. Roll away clean.

💡

Golden Tip!

Focus on popping straight down and getting your flicking foot out of the way. Don’t think about scooping or shoving the board; let the foot position and vertical pop do the work.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

⚠️

Board doesn’t flip or rotates incorrectly: You are likely trying to scoop it like a shove-it. Focus on a straight downward pop.

⚠️

Back foot hits the board after the flick: You are not getting your foot out of the way fast enough. Suck your knees up and give the board space.

⚠️

Fear of "credit carding": This is common. Practice the flicking motion without landing to get comfortable with the board flipping between your legs.
