Noseslide

Difficulty Level: IntermediateNose

Sliding on the Nose of Your Board

A Noseslide is a trick where the skateboarder slides along a ledge or rail on the nose of their board. The board is perpendicular to the obstacle, and the rider balances on the nose as they slide.

Prerequisite:

Ollie, Frontside 180, Backside 180

🎯 Get Sideways on the Nose

The Noseslide is a classic and stylish slide trick that is fundamental for ledge skating. It feels amazing to lock in and slide smoothly.

👟 Foot Positioning

1. Front Foot Position

Your front foot should be on or near the front bolts, ready to push the nose onto the ledge.

2. Back Foot Position

Your back foot is on the tail, prepared to pop the ollie.

1

Learn Prerequisites First

Before attempting noseslides, learn: (1) Frontside 180s, and (2) Backside boardslides. This makes you familiar with turning the board. A noseslide is basically like a boardslide but with your weight ALL THE WAY OVER on the nose. Practice standing still and simulating the movement - your friends might think you're crazy, but it works!

2

Approach at Slight Angle

Ride at a SLIGHT ANGLE to the ledge - about the width of your front truck distance away. This helps you gauge the distance and build confidence. Maintain comfortable speed.

3

Ollie, Turn, and COMMIT Weight

Ollie and turn your body and board 90 degrees (frontside or backside). The key is to really COMMIT YOUR WEIGHT ONTO THE TOP OF THE NOSE. Once you can commit your weight properly to the top of the nose, you'll be able to slide it as far as you want. Land with the nose on the edge, front foot applying pressure.

4

Slide with Proper Body Position

While sliding, keep your UPPER BODY/TORSO TURNED A LITTLE BIT in the direction you came from. This way, your hips will want to come back at the end and you'll be perfectly lined up. DON'T bring your shoulders open wide (especially when learning) - this will cause you to go to fakey.

5

Exit Forward (Not Fakey)

At the end of the ledge: your HIPS turn back, but your UPPER BODY STAYS STRAIGHT. Then when you pull out, come back FORWARD. This keeps you from going to fakey. Push off the nose to land back on all four wheels and ride away forward.

💡

Golden Tip!

The key is to really COMMIT YOUR WEIGHT ONTO THE TOP OF THE NOSE. Keep your upper body turned slightly in the direction you came from so your hips will naturally come back at the end. DON'T open your shoulders wide or you'll go to fakey. Remember: no tip will just "unlock" it - you need repetition to program it into muscle memory.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

⚠️

Not committing weight to the nose: You need to fully commit your weight onto the top of the nose.

⚠️

Opening shoulders too wide: This will cause you to go to fakey instead of riding out forward.

⚠️

Not learning prerequisites first: Learn frontside 180s and backside boardslides before attempting.

⚠️

Board slipping out: This happens if you lean back too much. Stay centered over the nose.

⚠️

Wrong approach angle: Approach at a slight angle (about front truck width distance).

⚠️

Giving up too soon: No trick feels natural at first - you need repetition to build muscle memory.
